NEW BUILD Distribution Centre
We were hired to support the start-up of a new distribution centre for a company in the food wholesale sector. The project involved taking possession of a £25m design and build facility and setting up the operation. Our services included:
Management consultancy: We acted as trusted advisors to the senior team, offering guidance and support across all functions as volume was increased to capacity. We helped our client align their strategy, structure, processes and culture with their business objectives and stakeholder expectations. We also helped them identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues and implement best practices.
Project management: Over the course of 12 months, we worked with the leadership team to deliver the start-up operation. We designed and implemented standard operating processes across the entire operation, ensuring quality, efficiency and compliance. We also established safe ways of working, fostering a culture of safety and responsibility.
Interim management: We provided skilled and experienced interim management support. We onboarded critical roles in the organisation, such as operations and shift managers. We oversaw recruitment and training/upskilling of staff, identifying skills gaps and developing competencies. We ensured a smooth transition of responsibilities to the permanent staff once they were hired.
Our services enabled our client to successfully launch and operate their new distribution centre, achieving their strategic goals and operational excellence.

Over a 12 months period, Sands & Co provided strategic support to the senior team, overseeing resource planning, identifying recruitment requirements in line with phased volume increases, the recruitment and training of senior managers, identifying skills gaps, designing and implementing training/upskilling plans in line with phased volume increases, as well as the design and implementation of standard operating procedures and safe systems of work.
